Pig Rearing

Step towards self reliance….

Mirubiti Kisku, w/o Sanatan Besra is resident of Village- Dahuwa, Panchayat- Kusumghati, Block-Boarijore of Godda district. After intervention of JTDS in her village she was nominated as a Treasurer in GSPEC and she is also a member of SHG. As a leader after receiving training she has  motivated most of the farmer which led to increase in land area of cultivation with people practicing line sowing which they have never done earlier which provided them increase in production of crops with further rise of income of each beneficiary.

She also mobilized for 100 piggery shades. In health care of livestock also she continuously supports Pashu Mitra regarding timely availability and application of medicine and vaccines to pigs. All the group’s members have taken for total loan Rs. 40000.00 for as to start grocery shop and mobile garment selling shop. Presently there are 5 pigs (big ones) 7 piglets in the breeding center. They have also plan to extend the pig breeding center . In present scenario, she is having secondary source of income from pig rearing. She is a leader and an inspiration to other women too. She utilized the money in procurement of Pigs, family maintenance and cultivation. Now she has diversified income source from which she has been benefited so much.          

Steps Towards Betterment….

Jurguria is a medium size village located in Saraikela Block of Saraikela Kharsawan district, Jharkhand with total 59 families residing. In Jurguriya Yuva Sitara group was formed on 20.04.2019 after much constrains. There are 15 members between the age of 18 to 30 year in the group and belong to Schedule tribe. All members come from agricultural family. Local type of Pig rearing is common in village therefore every youth member is acquainted and has little of pig rearing.  Changes seen after intervention of JTELP– In the Fiscal year 2017-018 the youth group Yuva Sitara was approved to construct pig breeding centre by JTDS DPMU district office. JTDS helped financially and guided technically. 

After constructed work completed the youth group provided 6 pigs (5 female and one male) T&D variety. The youth group was also provided seed money of Rs.65000.00 (Rs. 40000.00 from JTDS and Rs. 25000.00 fund from Chief Minister Jharkhand ). Piglets were new born and sold all 76 piglets. Hence more yielding meat T&D type of pigs are promoted to other groups and family in the area. By selling piglets they earned Rs. 234500.00. All the group’s members have taken for total loan Rs. 40000.00 for as to start grocery shop and mobile garment selling shop. Presently there are 5 pigs (big ones) 7 piglets in the breeding center. Pig Rearing Became Piggy Bank for Usha Devi

Usha Devi resident of Village – Jungur, Panchayat – Jungur, Block – Manika, District- Latehar. Jungur village is situated at 8 km from Manika block Headquarter. Usha’s family consists of her husband, two Son, one daughter. She belongs to Scheduled Tribe Community and her family’s primary source of income is Agriculture.

Before JTELP Intervention

Before intervention of JTELP in the village, Usha and her family use to earn money from Agricultural activities which was also not done throughout the year due to unavailability of irrigation facilities in the area. The money earned through agricultural activities was not sufficient to meet need of the family. Somewhere they had to lead their life with insufficient resources.

After JTELP Intervention

Usha Devi got Pig shed in the year 2016-17 which was passed through Gram Sabha and constructed through GSPEC, Jungur. She got six piglets including 04 sows and 02 boars in July 2018. She said that pig rearing was quite new work for her but she did it religiously and got the positive result of it. She used to take care of piglets like her own kids. Till January 2022 she has sold 55 piglets with net profit of Rs 220000/-. Now her pig shed is converted into a farm with 23 pigs as of now. Usha Devi sent her son to Ranchi for study. She has also built her pucca house partly with the income earned.  She has a plan to expand her small pig farm into a bigger one and buy a transport vehicle for export – import of the pigs.
