Construction of different irrigation facilities being done under Integrated Natural Resource Management component of Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Projects. Irrigation well is one of that which is being provided to selected beneficiary by Gram Sabha.
Sahdeo is one of beneficiaries provided with Irrigation well by JTDS in the area. His pond is under construction and would be completed soon. As he says, after construction of pond in his land he would be able to do farming in all three seasons in the year
Earlier, he used to do agricultural activities in Rainy or Kharif season only as there is no irrigation facility near his agricultural land. His was selected by Gram Sabha for sanctioning well in his land he finally the construction is going on and will be completed soon. This well would cover around 2 acres of land for irrigation. He says that they only do Paddy along with some Kharif crops. Now, he is confident enough to grow summer vegetables along with watermelon and some other crops. He accepts that his family income has enhanced after construction of pond in his land as it leads to increase in production of crops and he is able to sell them in near market.
Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) is one of the components of Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Project implemented by Jharkhand Tribal Development Society. Under INRM, construction of different irrigation facilities like Pond, Dobha, Irrigation Well and Shallow Well being done by JTDS.All these constructions are being done through labour work and therefore livelihood options are provided to villagers for digging such facilities inside the village. Total 673 Irrigation Well constructed in 14 project districts. The construction of irrigation well will increase area of irrigation and will result in increase in production.The beneficiaries of Irrigation well say that they have experienced more production in last few year after construction and moreover now they are able to cultivate in more area of land throughout the year as there is no water scarcity.
Shallow Well
Integrated Natural Resource Management (INRM) is one of the components of Jharkhand Tribal Empowerment and Livelihoods Project implemented by Jharkhand Tribal Development Society. Under INRM, constructions of different irrigation facilities like Pond, Dobha, Irrigation Well and Shallow Well being done by JTDS. The main objective of construction is to improve farming and production in the area. These Irrigation Wells and Shallow Wells have also met the need of drinking water of the villagers on time of scarcity.While talking about Shallow well, total 1303 Shallow wells constructed in 14 project district. Rohini Devi of Village Lotihatu from Bundu Block of Ranchi district shares her happiness by saying that construction of Shallow well in her land covers need of 34 households in the village.
The water is being used for irrigation as well as for drinking and cooking purpose for the households. All Shallow wells are being constructed through labour work so that livelihood options provided to villagers for digging such facilities inside the village. After construction of Shallow well, the benefit is that beneficiaries are able to do cultivation in Rabi and Garma also as they used to do farming in Kharif only. Through year wide farming it has increased the production as well as income of beneficiaries after selling the produce.
